DEACONS
Mission Statement
We, the deacons of First Presbyterian Church, have the responsibility and privilege to encourage and lead our church family, through our example, in caring for one another as Christ cares for us.
Organizational Structure for Deacons
- 2 Deacon Co-moderators to administer the work of the Board
- Deacon Co-coordinators for each of the 6 Areas of Ministry
- Deacons assisted by church member volunteers
- Clergy Liaison to the Board
The Board’s ministry of care is organized around specific areas of ministry, and implemented through a variety of programs and activities directed toward
specific needs of our church family. Programs and activities can change and adapt to the current concerns of the congregation as they become apparent.
Areas of Ministry to the Congregation
- Sunday Greeting, Hospitality, Flowers
Objective: To nurture and sustain a sense of community by warm and friendly presence and hospitality before and after worship; to offer practical assistance when the opportunity arises; to share a bit of beauty, in the form of our altar flowers, where beauty is needed and appreciated.
- Supportive Assistance (for short-term needs)
Objective: To nurture and sustain a sense of community by responding in various ways with care and concern to the needs of our church family as they arise due to crisis or difficulty.
- Sunday Transportation
Objective: To nurture and sustain a sense of community by providing an organized and reliable way for church members to attend Sunday worship when they are not able to drive themselves.
- Memorial and Wedding Services
Objective: To provide warm and friendly presence and hospitality through practical assistance to families and clergy.
- Visitation
Objective: To nurture and sustain a sense of community through caring and ongoing relationships with members of our church family who may be experiencing illness, loneliness, or distress in some way.
- Senior Fellowship
Objective: To nurture and sustain a sense of community among senior members of our church family by collaborating on and developing opportunities for service, education, and fellowship.

STEPHEN MINISTRY
First Presbyterian is a Stephen Ministry Church, meaning that we actively train and place lay people to meet the many needs of those hurting in some way. This may be due to a loss of a loved one or job, those feeling alone or battling with depression or stress.
