Observed on the first Sunday of November, All Saint's Sunday is the time in the church year when the Church remembers the saints who have preceded us into the Church Triumphant. A major piece of choral music, such as John Rutter's Requiem, is sung. Subsequently, the congregation partakes in Communion.
Scottish Heritage Sunday provides an opportunity for members to celebrate the history of the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. The liturgy, sermon, music, and celebration all remind the congregation of our denomination's debt to Scottish heritage.
There are two Christmas Eve worship services. The first service is designed for all members of the First Presbyterian Church family, but especially the younger children. It typically includes the children's Christmas pageant. The second service is a traditional service of lessons, carols, and candlelight. There is also a short homily.
Maundy Thursday is the night Jesus was betrayed. Each year, it is marked by a Tenebrae service of lessons and the extinguishing of candles to signify Jesus' descent into the darkness of trial, suffering, and death.
There are two services in the morning. The Easter sermon, a time with the children, and festival music proclaim the heart of the resurrection faith.
