THE TWO-BY-TWO PROGRAM
Offered by the First Presbyterian Church Nursery School
Patricia Bria Case, Director

As an outreach of the church to the larger community, the Two-by-Two program is non-sectarian and open to all families regardless of race, color, or creed.

"Two-by-Two" provides an opportunity for toddlers to:
  1. Gently separate from parents.
2. Interact socially with peers and develop positive relationships with early childhood staff.
3. Progress from solitary to parallel to interactive play.
4. Be exposed to and immersed in a variety of enriching experiences.
5. Enjoy a positive and successful "first school" experience in a developmentally appropriate and secure learning environment.

Program Goals
  1. Develop a positive self image.
2. Develop independence and responsibility for self.
3. Develop cognitive skills, logical thinking, and perceptual ability.
4. Develop an awareness of self, others, and the natural environment.
5. Create an environment conducive to positive social growth.
6. Develop an appreciation of the arts (music, dance, art).
7. Encourage creativity.
8. Encourage an interest in and enjoyment of the printed word.
9. Develop an appreciation of the importance of reading.
10. Involve parents in positive learning experiences.

Housed in the Crib-Toddler Room of the Church, "Two-by-Two" is fully licensed by the Connecticut Department of Health Services, providing a safe and appropriate physical environment for our children.

Our Staff is made up of two early childhood professionals with many years of collective experience in the classroom. The student/teacher ratio is 4:1 at all times; substitute teachers will be available in case of teacher illness or absence. A third staff member will be in the classroom for the first six weeks of the program to facilitate the separation process.

A Music Teacher will also be a part of the program. She will meet with classes twice monthly to introduce the children to favorite songs, basic movement, and development of gross motor skills, as well as the use of simple instruments.

Registration for September is accepted in February.

1) Children who are two years old by October 1st are age eligible for the program. Program options are: M/W mornings, T/Th mornings or afternoons, and Fri mornings. Hours are 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.

2) First Presbyterian Church member families will receive priority in registration, all other spaces will be determined by lottery.
