Mark Montgomery grew up in South Carolina, a child of the Presbyterian Church. A graduate of Clover High School and then Clemson University; stories of the South formed Mark and nurtured a call to ministry. From South Carolina, Mark lived in North Carolina (Charlotte), Virginia (Richmond), Texas (Houston), California (Berkeley), New Jersey (Upper Montclair), and New York (NYC, Waverly and 6th). Mark has lived in Norwalk, CT for 17 years, sharing a home with his partner George. Now, George’s mom and a dog named Jake are part of the household as well.
Ordained in the United Church of Christ, Mark has received welcome and affirmation from this wonderfully progressive denomination. Still, Mark has held onto his PC(USA) heritage providing leadership at the local church, Presbytery, Synod and National levels of the denomination; most recently keynoting two Youth Conferences for Montreat Conference Center and The Presbyterian Youth Triennium.
Mark says, “Receiving a call to serve alongside the members, staff and friends of FPCG feels like a homecoming in the truest sense. I’m excited to, again, stand on the foundation of my Presbyterian tradition while simultaneously exploring the wonder and work to which God is calling us right now.”
